DIY TV Spots: Part II

In my last post, I provided some basic steps for a do-it-yourself television commercial. As mentioned, you have a few options if you want to take on this responsibility.

This next option for creating your own spot eliminates a few steps and can mean even greater savings. There are a few companies offering online spot creation services, the best of which I've seen so far is Spotmixer.
This web-based advertising service allows you to create and place video ads online and on tv. I spent about 30 minutes toying around with the widget that helps you create your commercial. It's really pretty cool. But,  (yes, there is a but)  I found the choices of templates very limited, although on their website, they say that you can choose from over 200 templates. The additional templates may be available once you sign up for the service. You can also add music and select your choice of backgrounds which includes some video elements or you can simply upload your own video.

Speaking of costs, you can actually create and place an ad online starting at $10.00. To place your ad on tv, prices start at $299.00. They claim that your ad will run on channels/networks such as NBC, USA, Bravo and Animal Planet. You'll have to check them out to learn about local placement. For $79.00 you can also download your video from their site and post it on youtube.

For a more customized ad, you'll still want to create your own video. But there's lots to play with at Spotmixer so check it out.

Which would you rather use to create your commercial, an online service or hire a company?
